So war supporters say a war is necessary because Saddam may possess weapons of mass destruction. Right. That leaves us with two choices. The first is simple. If he doesn't possess WMD, then we had no goddamn reason to attack him and were being unjust.

The second. Now the second is interesting. Suppose he does possess WMD. We haven't so far found them with inspections. Thus to attack him without evidence of such is to admit that he's more clever than the US, that America is too goddamn dumb to find the weapons of a third-rate tinpot dictator. To attack him would be an overt admission that America is a nation of big stupes.

As an American, this offends me. I am not stupid. I refuse to believe that some schmucky dictator can outfox the combined expertise and intelligence of a developmentally advanced nation of hundreds of millions of people. Of course we can bomb him into oblivion; that's taken for granted. But we can also outsmart this guy, I am convinced, and I would be severely disappointed if we failed to do so.

Novis) spewed forth:

Not quite, since it's a UN team looking for them. And any sane person knows the UN isn't good at anything.

It really is not tht difficult. The country is roughly the size of France, even with an inspection team of a thousand it would be still like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

You have been quite rightly fishing around and hooked the red herring. WMD are a red herring, and a blatantly obvious one at that.

Everyone knows that Iraq is no threat to the USA. Everyone knows that WMD are not the issue.

It's a fantasy.

The US does not want Hans Blix and his people in there because they know that after nine months he will eventually find next to nothing. And yes, it IS possible to inspect Iraq. It just takes a bit of time. But at this stage they can claim that Saddam is playing games. But it does not wash after the weeks go by. So they need to terminate the process.

The reality of the situation is contained in the following statement by George Bush:

'They brought violence to us, so we will bring it to them'.

(Another lie..When has Iraq ever brought violence to US civilians? NEVER)

But the US govt wants to use its weapons. Against anyone, anything, as soon as possible. Rationality and justice goes out the window. Its based on a warped version on the old testament, so warped that an 'eye for an eye' requires too much thought - this would require finding the culprit. Instead, anyone will suffice - its like an eye for some elses ear, or nose.

Mixed with this is imperialism because at the same time they expand US dominance of the Middle East. The dominance will be written in the blood of the Iraqis and Palestinians, whose demise will be toasted by ultra-Zionists in Tel Aviv, Washington and elsewhere.

This is one of the most disgraceful adventures in history.

The only hope I have is that on Tuesday the resolution is voted down or vetoed at the UN and the adventure is exposed as a disgrace. And Blair will be well and truelly sunk in that case.

Agreed. But for different reasons. Wrong target.

We (and NATO) should be knocking the dogshit out of North Korea right now. Tell China they can have the spoils, and wipe them off the face of the earth. Iraq means nothing to me. The thought of North Korea producing plutonium bothers me enough to wish death upon the regime.

I am afraid the cat's already out of the bag on that one.

N Korea gonna build the Bomb and there is not much the US can do about it.

Talk about taking one's eye of the ball...

Oh for sure - but what bothers me is when they (being utterly cash-strapped) get enough to peddle it around. Plutonium is nasty nasty stuff. Besides being radioactive, it's just plain deadly toxic. Saddam is such a non-starter compared to the NK threat.

Sure, yet Saddam has repeated on many occasions his hate for America and that he wishes we were all dead. He has admitted he would not be ashamed to be linked with Al Qadea, which means if they were to come to him he would help them. If he has no WMD then how come the UN keeps asking what happened to all the weapons he was known to have before the inspectors got kicked out in 98 and Saddam never gives them an answer. If he has no WMD, then how come all these people who used to work for him and have no defected keep claiming he has them. Of course the inspectors havent found anything yet. He had FOUR YEARS to hide them while the inspectors were gone. Thats MORE THAN ENOUGH time to hide them well. If it didnt bother him to use his WMD on his own people, then why would he not use them on us or give them to people who would when he hates America.

You still ignore the facts that Saddam has violated UN resolutions time and time again and they have turned a blind eye the whole time. He rapes, murders, and tortures Iraqi citizens all the time. Some soldiers and Iraqi citizens will die in the war, but a lot more would probably die if Saddam were to remain in power for another twenty or so years.

Who cares if they vote it down. If the UN is too weak to do what is right then we have every right to go it alone. They ALL voted for a resolution allowing war last year. France and Russia dont want to go to war because they dont want to lose their huge deals and trades they have with Iraq.
