Interesting.

But several things need to be noted.

Firstly the Nazis were not abolishing a Second Amendment (or equivilent) but instead preventing the Jews acquiring weapons, by creating new law.

In any country, with a Second Amendment or not, gun ownership (and control) is possible. The US govt. can control gun ownership and ignore the Second Amendment if they want to, especially now.

Additionally, I never said that the Nazis did not implement such measures. I just do not think its a particularly strong argument for the Second Amendment, for a whole range of reasons.

And as far as the Second Amendment is concerned it is basically an historical curiosity. Some people are attached to it, fair enough. But it will make little difference whether its abolished or not. There will still be gun ownership, gun control, gun crime.

The real issues are indeed gun crime and gun control etc, and these issues will be no doubt be endlessly debated whether there is a Second Amendment or

support the Second Amendment. Which seems to me pretty obvious.

Also:

The UK is NOT an 'unarmed society'.

The police are armed and there is quite alot of private arms (both legal and illegal.) You are labouring under the delusion that since we don't have Second Amendment in the UK that people are somehow completely barred from getting weapons. Weapons can still be got both through legal and illegal means.

And yes, Legend, my chances of survival, of NOT dying from gun related crime, are considerably higher living in the UK (and even more so in other European countries) compared to the USA. So if you want to live, make a simple calculation (based on all current crime surveys) and live in an 'unarmed' society

Go figure....

OK, simple question: which has more gun-related deaths, the UK or the US?

Thank you.

In addition I would say:

It would be wrong to lay the blame for all gun related crime in the US on the Second Amendment.

And indeed abolishing the Second Amendment alone would probably not make much difference either way, since the Amendment seems a bit outdated anyway.

But what I do know is that the Second Amendment certainly does not REDUCE gun related crime.

The real issues (concerning crime reduction) are not about the Constitution per se.

Doesn't surprise me. Look at the people who were willing to leave Europe and move to America. There's something about that that should hold your attention, if it occurs to you.

Yak wrut:

I hope mine stays an unarmed society while I'm still around. I'm rather hopeful that it will. Canadians are, to put it mildly, nice people.

My friend Larry has been working as a bouncer at a very popular downtown bar for several years, and he showed up with a black eye when I met him last night. A patron wearing a big ring had taken a swing at him when he tried to eject the guy from the premises for being stupid-drunk. Larry says that it's the worst injury he's ever gotten in his profession. I find that rather

spewed forth:

What is this misconception the English and Canadians have that the very presence of guns leads to wild anarchy ?

I don't. It's not exactly common for bouncers to get stabbed or shot.

Rev. Bleech_ wrut:

We're funny that way. Let's just say that the absence of guns is a pretty good sign that anarchy isn't exactly around the corner.

Wild guess: You've never been in Manila.

What Ben said.

What's the point of absolute figures in this case?
