Contemporaries of Barrett have attested that Barrett did indeed use the I Ching for divinatory purposes, and not just song-writing. To wit:

agreed, but you haven't given evidence that Syd divined Fu, just that he used the Yijing for divination, which I don't dispute. the point I was making was that Fu is a significant hexagram which can catch the attention of the artistic as fodder for lyric-writing (he copied many of his lyrics for 'Chapter 24' *directly from* Wilhelm-Baynes).

nice source! I liked that book. again, it bears no evidence that Fu from Syd's 'Chapter 24' was derived from divining, rather than reading the text and noticing the lyricality of it and its commentary.

this is directly relevant since you were claiming that divining Fu for the alt.magick newsgroup was somehow comparable and might lead to the same condition as Syd (apparently inherited: schizophrenia).

no evidence indicates that LSD will cause these results, plus he was known to be ingesting a variety of substances, including Mandrax, which are much more reliably linked to the consequences.

he is known to be collecting a government subsidy, which seems to indicate some kind of diagnosis. his sister is sometimes addressed as his legal guardian. many observers familiar with schizophrenic behaviour (e.g. Townsend) indicated conformity, though no public disclosure of his medical records has allowed his condition to be known to fans.

in any case, the rumour that he may have divined Fu rather than merely used from a Wilhelm-Baynes he was given by Mrs. O'Connell cannot substantiate a connection between Syd's having done so and that recent result in regards alt.magick's denizens. I do understand that I am disregarding the tongue-in-cheek nature of your comment. sorry for my humourlessness. :>

As I said before, when I started using the I Ching, I used the R.L.Wing's diary version. When I moved on to different translations, I still marked it in my diary. Then when I got a spreadsheet, I of course plotted the I Ching in! That's when I saw my life in graphic 3D colors. I always questioned my situation before it was resolved, and the I Ching always responded with the truth, as when you write it down, you will always know it was true.
