Executions in the USA

Texas 248, Virginia 82, Florida 51, Missouri 50, Oklahoma 43, Louisiana 26, South Carolina 25, Arkansas 24, Alabama 23, Arizona 22, North Carolina 17, Delaware 13, Illinois 12, California 9, Nevada 9, Indiana 8, Utah 6.

Its an absolute disgrace that California, Nevada, Indiana and Utah are only in single figures! An ABSOLUTE BLOODY DISGRACE!

I'm going to write to Gray Davis - start killing people now! The place is swarming with psychokillers. The Manson family!

Hurry up! Dust off that electric chair, sharpen those needles!

If I were you in America, I'd be far more worried about getting the shit beat out of me for being such a bastard than the death penalty. In fact, I'd wager you're not too popular of a guy on your side of the Atlantic. Of course, you likely lack the fortitude to spew the kind of crap you do here 'down the pub,'

38 states (and the District of Columbia) in the U.S. have the death penalty. Overall, the use of the death penalty is in decline, with only a few states (Texas, Virginia, and Florida, mainly) accounting for 2/3 of the executions. Six of the states haven't had executions since 1976.

14 states (I think?) are considering legislation to limit the death penalty in certain cases, with certain defendents (e.g. mentally incapacitated), or preventing the sentence from being carried out until further research is done to ensure fair application of the sentence.

Further, there are some recent successes in trying to abolish the death penalty. One state governor commuted 164 death row inmates to life in prison because he had concluded that 'capital punishment was applied unfairly and arbitrarily and risked executing persons who were innocent'.

The more isolated the states that account for the overwhelming majority of death penalty executions become, the greater the pressure for reform will be, and the greater the likelihood of abolishment altogether.

Hit town, turn right down the high street, then hang a left and its the second shop down.

Sense of Humours start from $20, but I would advise a Dry one, they are slightly more expensive.

As for me, I am perfectly safe, reasonably popular and no one wants to kill me here. Well, perhaps they do, but they haven't told me about it!

I think they have banned the DP for mentally impaired haven't they? Supreme Court? Or perhaps just suspended it.

That was Illinois wasn't it?

Mmmmm. Not good to hate, mate, I just thinks the USA a bit of mess underneath all the superficial gleam (like many countries) and rather bizarre. And what are the solutions... Who knows? Methinks that GWBush does not figure too highly in any of the possible ones though.

'This is the part that probably will be edited: I was and still am a member of the majority of American voters who were not realised in the last presidential election. And there is no doubt of outright criminality at the highest level by the court declared winners. We are now seeing in America the possibilities of an absolute government by the few for the betterment of the few. This is to be reached in any manner. But as one of that great majority who believes and knows America as America is not the person, politician or political party who happens to be in office for a stated period of time, in the words of Martin Luther King 'We shall overcome' and we will.'
