npfr: not so smart after all

i usually avoid these subjects like the plague, but after media overload today, i felt compelled to express my opinion on the most talked-about news story of the past two days. to put this mildly... elizabeth smart's dad is a complete and total wazoo.

sure, he's a loving, church-going, devoted family man who loves his children, but not the sharpest tool in the shed when 'out of the goodness of his heart' he hired a homeless handyman (with a questionable past and bad hygiene) to help out at the house- a house with his young, impressionable children.

long before the smart case, there were numerous horror stories making the national news of young children being abducted, beaten, raped, and killed. when you bring a child into this world, it is your duty as a parent to provide the best care possible for your children.

mr. smart may as well have opened his front door and yelled out at the nearest vagrant, 'hello trouble, c'mon in!'. kids have a hard enough time today avoiding weirdos when they walk to school, let alone having them guests at their own houses! elizabeth, being the young age that perverts dream about, didn't stand a chance.

now we see film footage of the 'happy family' reunited. it ain't over by a longshot. the psychological troubles ahead for elizabeth dealing with the aftermath could mess the kid up for a long, long time.

her life was put in jeopardy needlessly by a trusting and naive father who believes there is good in all people- even child abductors. sure, he had no way of knowing the guy would turn out to be whacko, but have you seen the guy's picture? not just the photo with the beard where he looks like charlie manson on crack, even the photos where he's well-shaven... the guys eyes say the whole story. just look at him.

mom and dad smart better pray not only for elizabeth, they better start praying for themselves to never again be allowed to be so _stupid_ welcoming a child abductor into their house filled with.... children, no less.

Well, I looked up an article on Yahoo and Elizabeth is supossed to have been married to her abductor is a wierd ceremony. That's the Mormons for ya. I am so glad I got outta there.

Actually, I don't know how parents do it. I mean, any time I think about bringing a child into this world I run away screaming.
