Hero of the Week
Karl Rove, George Bush's chief political strategist, has persuaded the President to read books after a lifetime of eschewing the library for the baseball pitch. A busy Christmas for Dubya, finishing a biography of Teddy Roosevelt, a book on Richard the Lionheart and a chronicle on the American Civil War.
Unfortunately it hasn't quite revolutionised the President's legendary way with words, as Bush's tribute to the goodwill of both 'the Indians and the Pakis' suggested that we had better not return Mr Blair to domestic duty just yet. The White House was keen to stress that 'The President has a great respect for Pakistan, the Pakistani people, and the Pakistani culture', although as Matthew Engel of The Guardian pointed out, 'There has long been a sense that Mr Bush's respect for Pakistan has never extended actually to knowing anything about the place'.

A new bit of Bush news (how redundant) Jeb!'s daughter has been nicked for prescription fraud. How'd you like to arrest someone whose grandfather is an ex-President, uncle IS President, and father Governor of Florida? Here is an arrest that will be gone over with a fine toothed comb for sure.
