Personally I would put it the other way round, if anything.

Although Beck is undoubtably a great guitarist, I feel Gilmour's are more lyrical and have a certain something undefined. The French have phrase for that but I can't spell it.

I don't know the Kate Bush song, but I have never thought of DG on WGWIII. Beck is more raw and, while not more evocative neccessarily, projects a bit more of his essence through his instrument. I can't think of a better way to verbalize it. I tend to think of Jeff Beck in the way that I think of Stevie Ray Vaughn, where the guitar is truly an extention of his soul. It doesn't always work well in Beck's case, but you will get several brilliant takes to choose from.

Je ne sais quois either. I think that Gilmour's stuff is more thought out, and Beck's just happens.

That's the one.

Gilmour has that.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there man, that's about as well stated as I've ever seen it. Even if he had the technical ability (and he might, who knows) Gilmour is too laid back to play a guitar as hard as JB and Mr. Vaughn.

It just kills me that when you spell check, Gilmour comes up as 'glimmer'.

So true.

NQ! And I know what you mean too - 'Je Nay Say Kwah' right? Obviously I can't spell it either. But it's their fault for having so many silent letters.
