Exactly what is the opening 45 seconds of YAM supposed to be about? And when it was played in concert what (if any) video was superimposed?

Also, the movie sample towards the end. IS that really humphrey Bogart's voice I hear?

Big bouncy bass notes.

Nothing, just Gary Wallis doing the twirling neon-drumstick thing (thus the usual pause for applause you hear on many of the 1988 ROIOs...possibly a few later 1987 ones as well).

Yes, from 'Casablanca.'

Heh. I think it's about polishing brass rails in old English homes in Oxfordshire, but that's just my opinion.

Seriously though - what is the point of asking 'what's this music about'? That's sort of defeating its purpose, IMHO. WHY ASK WHY, MAN?!?

Ah yes, the film's famous 'goodbye' speech that Bogart gives Ingrid Bergman (who you can also hear). 'You'll regret it [referring to her desire to stay with him] ... mabye not today, maybe not tomorrow, but some day.' ... and she ends it with, 'But what about us?'

I had to see that movie again before I finally realized that it was from Casablanca. As naggingly familiar as it was, I just never realized it was from Casablanca. Well, this was also back around 1992 or so, and the newsgroups were relatively unknown to me.

YAM is probably my favorite track from the Dehydrated Pink Floyd. Figures that Gilmour didn't have much of a clue himself what it was about. And I mean that in both as a slight and a compliment.

Heh. That, and the rest of the side two takes the cake for me.

I'll bet he was just being 'difficult' when he said that, the grouch.
